REJOICE TOGETHER WITH JAMES AND MARIETTE
It’s a joy to publish in this e-bulletin that James and Mariette will be committing themselves to one another in marriage this coming Wednesday, 12th August. Please join in praying the Lord’s great blessing on them, not only on their wedding day, but in their lives together.
They have a limited time with family, so we want to suggest that you don’t phone them, but should you wish to send them a message of congratulations feel free to do so to the following email address: by Wednesday 12 August. We will put all the messages together and make sure they receive them.
Please do all that you can to make this a joyous season in their lives.
FROM THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
Notes of the meeting held on 28 July 2020
We are still meeting via Zoom and all of us gathered on line.
Summary of our meeting hereunder:
We are in the process of finding the best way to co-operate with Izibusiso going forward and hope to formalise an agreement soon.
We are assisting an informal settlement in Hawston and await a formal proposal on how best to support them in the coming months.
Our Finances are very stable thanks to our wonderfully generous congregation and we thank God for every single person that supports the Church in this manner. All of our staff members and Ministers have been paid full salaries over the lockdown period.
We have thus far assisted needy people suffering hardship due to the pandemic to the tune of R120 000. This has been funded via a very focused and careful evaluation of reserves built up over time. We are aware there will be needs into the foreseeable future and we are careful when approving funding
If you are aware of anyone that could benefit from our online Services and devotions please let the office have their details so that they can be placed on a mailing list.
We are truly blessed to have two Ministers that have adapted so well to the recent changes. Our thanks to them for serving us in such an exemplary manner.
We are finding ways of utilising our staff more effectively given the changing circumstances. This will be on going while we discover new routines and avenues of service.
We regularly evaluate the possibility to conduct restricted services again and will ensure that you are kept up to date in this regard.
Our call committee will commence with their task in finding a candidate to serve this congregation when James and Ken retire.
Thank you for placing your trust in us to continue as Board members until December 2020. Rest assured that we will act in the best interest of our Church here in Hermanus.
PRAYER GUIDELINES FOR WEEK 20
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Ps 119:105)
Let us pray through Psalm 27.
Take some time to ponder each day’s Scripture:
ask questions, talk to the Lord about it, listen!
Then continue to intercede for
our church, community and country.
The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;
Though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
And to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
He will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
And set me high upon a rock.
Then my head will be exalted above the enemies
who surround me;
At his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Hear my voice when I call, O LORD;
Be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
Your face, LORD, I will seek.
Teach me your way, O LORD;
Lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart
And wait for the LORD.
SUNDAY WORSHIP GATHERINGS
Dear United Church family,
In the light of the present surge in infections in the Overstrand, the elders and Board executive made the decision on Friday that we should put on hold all physical gatherings on the church premises. Under the current circumstances it was felt that physical gatherings increased the potential for contamination, and we did not want our people to be exposed to any unnecessary risk.
This means that all Sunday worship gatherings have also been put on hold until further notice.
This decision was made in the light of our original decision to regularly review the best alternatives for our United family.
Please remember to do all that you can to keep yourself safe.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.
Ken and James
